Spring Break in Yosemite 2012

                                Dear All in Cabin 1A,
We enjoyed a wonderful Spring Break here at the Wawona Retreat. Arriving the day before Easter we were SO pleased with the upgraded kitchen. It made cooking for 10 quite a treat! Easter Sunday we had brunch at the Wawona Hotel then hunted for eggs there.

We came back and hiked to Chilnualna Falls and the Swinging Bridge (about 5 mi). We had another egg hunt in our backyard while our Easter Ham and dinner cooked, although we had to wait for the THREE DEER that were relaxing to leave

Can you spot the 3 deer. 2 there in the center and one off to the left
Mashing Potatoes!
washing up their dishes!

Monday we hiked to Mirror Lake then over to Happy Isles where we took the Trail of Mist up to Vernal Falls (around 7 mi).

Tuesday we went all over the valley. Bridal Veil Falls, Lower Yosemite falls (even took JT to climb up the rocks), The Ahwahnee Hotel, The Meadow, Le Conte Memorial, through Housekeeping camp, here, there and everywhere.

Wednesday the weather changed sharply from the warm spring days we'd enjoyed so far and we woke to rain. Deciding to brave the rain we headed to the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias trees only to find it closed due to the abundantly falling SNOW! We parked the trucks and walked the two miles uphill, in the snow, to the grove entrance. It was another mile from there to see the Grizzly Giant, serious flurries the whole way up! 6 miles with 5 kids under 8 in 3 hours.

Our last night we had s'mores and hot chocolate after our Talent/Show and Dance Party!
We definitely feel awesome having gotten to do so many things in Yosemite and experience both the beautiful warm spring AND the lovely white falling snow! Best of Both Worlds. Thank you for having such an amazing cabin and for sharing it with our families. We couldn't have asked for a cooler spring break!

Color Running

A while ago on Pinterest I found a 5K called the Color Run. IMMEDIATELY I zipped over to the website and giggled over how fun it looked. With a resolve to register myself and my closest 50 friends and their children I attempted to do so only to find out it had sold out ARGH! I added their site to my safari top sites so that I could stalk it in the hopes that more spots would open up. A girlfriend of mine, Mrs. Webb of the Webb Site, found the Color Run Facebook page and it was thanks to that, we had first heads as to when more spots would become available. THANK GOODNESS because this completely "for FUN" run was a total blast!

I signed us all up (EVEN JT!) and we were looking forward to it for a month. Even in all the house hullaballooness. Yes, I make up words sometimes. JT had done shorter runs but this would be his first 5k. The night before, Mr. B was still at work and knew he wouldn't be able to make it home in time for the run the next day.  My good friend B&G's momma, had gotten her registration but spots had sold out when she went to register her daughter (BECAUSE THE RACE IS TOTALLY COOL!). Since we had the extra bib number, it worked out that JT could run with his pal too! Put that together with the two other First Grade Fellow Charter School Friends, Ms. A and Ms. K, we totally represented the Eaglets out there!
-side note: in all seriousness I contemplated just rolling with an acronym for that. FGFCSH... oh goodness.

How awesome to be out there with our kids getting our colorful exercise on?! I was glad to give my kiddos and opportunity to get crazy filthy in a controlled environment, haha, ever my faux-c-d. They were scrubbed completely the second we got home though. This was a fantastic use of a cloudy day! Woot!

A little color action for JT as we wait at the starting line for our wave to start!
1st Grade represents!

Hea Bug Represents too!

So Cal Color Run 2012!
