1st Day of School 2013, Pre-K and 3rd Grade

JT and HeaBug started school! They are both excited and ready for the year ahead. HeaBug is in her last year of preschool and now attending 5 days a week! Big girl status.
Traditionally, Booth Kids can have ANYTHING in the world for breakfast on the first day of school. This girl wanted a donut with pink frosting and sprinkles AND a chocolate donut with sprinkles. Crazy hair got her wish!
JT wanted a tres leches cake from Cafe Rio. Mmm cake for breakfast!
So silly.
So serious.

Time sure is going by fast...

Open House

Spring time means Open House. Where we get to wander through our child's classroom, oohing and aahing over all the things they have done. Thanking and congratulating their teachers on a job well done and browsing the classrooms of the next grade level up.

We did all of the above and are still so THANKFUL that JT has such an amazing teacher. She's wonderful and experienced and we really lucked out being a part of her class.

Just speaks volumes about the level of teacher at our school, their dedication to the students, their classroom and the community is so apparent. Proud to be an Emerson Eagle!

Emerson Olympics

Each year at JT’s school, they hold a fitness day fundraiser. The purpose is obviously twofold. To raise money and to teach the importance of fitness. You may have heard of, donated to or attended something similar… think jog-a-thon, trike-a-thon etc.
One of my gals decided she wanted to chair the even this year and early on, health and fitness being high on my importance list, volunteered to assist. She had an amazing theme picked out, the Emerson Olympics. With the summer games just having passed in London, Olympics were still fresh on everyone’s mind so it really gave the kids something to relate to. We have a few olympian parents and members in our community. She was able to reach out to them and they agreed to speak to our students about the importance of fitness and working hard in school. We had an opening ceremony, a lighting of the torch, and olympians speak to our kids. Each class was assigned a country, given a flag and their donation packets. They were pumped.
It was a great day and it was such a treat hearing the kids talk to their parents after school and tell them what a good experience it was. We ended up raising $17,000 for our school! Isn’t that crazy awesome?!

A month of collecting pledges and donations went by and before we knew it, our games were upon us. Thursday morning, bright and early at 6am, there we were to decorate and transform our playground for the kids.
The lunch benches became the olympic village, banners and streamers hung and floated on wind. Flags dotted the rooftop. The grassy area was strung with banners and flags and the eight 8’ balance beams our Rock Steady Guys built for me were placed in the center. The whole playground was divided into 9 stations. #1 Cardio Warmup, #2 100 yard dash, #3 arm ropes and jump ropes, #4 hula hoops, #5 shot put, #6 kick a goal, #7 centipede run, #8 monkey bars, #9 balance beam. Then they ran around the front of the school to the finish line where they received medals and took a class picture with the rest of their country at our awesomely decorated backdrop/handball medal podium.

I was stationed to take photos all day which was tons of fun. Mr. B and HeaBug came and helped all day long. Like all day. Love them so much. He spent this time after spending the majority of February traveling for work. I was so glad to have his company and he was just the best. He went and got us John’s for lunch (Our favorite local burger spot) and just spent the whole day being amazingly supportive. (And handsome, he’s so good at that!).

First Day of School 2012-2013

Love these two bugs. It was their first day of school for the new year. It was the first time we'd gone to our first day of school from our new house. We now live less than a mile away from school. We can walk, ride our bikes or scooters. We are so grateful to be in our new home and to be making memories here.
JT is starting second grade! Can we believe it? No.
I'll hang out here in denial.

This little missy is now in the 3-4 year class. She's excited to be at the same school and is pumped to be in an older class. She's writing her name and if you've had the chance to talk to this little one, you'll know what I mean when I call her brighter than the sun.

Thankful every single day that we have jobs that allow us the flexibility to be able to take part in special moments like walking our kids to school on the first day. We hope that they know how much we love them and how proud we are of their efforts and accomplishments. Mr. B and I are so happy that they enjoy learning new things and feel honored to care for these two.

Color Running

A while ago on Pinterest I found a 5K called the Color Run. IMMEDIATELY I zipped over to the website and giggled over how fun it looked. With a resolve to register myself and my closest 50 friends and their children I attempted to do so only to find out it had sold out ARGH! I added their site to my safari top sites so that I could stalk it in the hopes that more spots would open up. A girlfriend of mine, Mrs. Webb of the Webb Site, found the Color Run Facebook page and it was thanks to that, we had first heads as to when more spots would become available. THANK GOODNESS because this completely "for FUN" run was a total blast!

I signed us all up (EVEN JT!) and we were looking forward to it for a month. Even in all the house hullaballooness. Yes, I make up words sometimes. JT had done shorter runs but this would be his first 5k. The night before, Mr. B was still at work and knew he wouldn't be able to make it home in time for the run the next day.  My good friend B&G's momma, had gotten her registration but spots had sold out when she went to register her daughter (BECAUSE THE RACE IS TOTALLY COOL!). Since we had the extra bib number, it worked out that JT could run with his pal too! Put that together with the two other First Grade Fellow Charter School Friends, Ms. A and Ms. K, we totally represented the Eaglets out there!
-side note: in all seriousness I contemplated just rolling with an acronym for that. FGFCSH... oh goodness.

How awesome to be out there with our kids getting our colorful exercise on?! I was glad to give my kiddos and opportunity to get crazy filthy in a controlled environment, haha, ever my faux-c-d. They were scrubbed completely the second we got home though. This was a fantastic use of a cloudy day! Woot!

A little color action for JT as we wait at the starting line for our wave to start!
1st Grade represents!

Hea Bug Represents too!

So Cal Color Run 2012!

Silent Auction Fun

A fun night of bidding on fabulous baskets, all bids benefit our Amazing Charter School. We were the winners of Hair Bows by Mrs. Sees (JT's kinder teacher). We bid on them last year but lost at the last minute. This year, HeaBug's hair is growing and cute bows help to cutie-fy the crazy curls up top!
We won a Keurig instant drink machine (you're welcome Rock Steady Shop) that was JT's class's basket. And thanks to Mr. B's thoughtful scouting, I scored a basket full of wrapping paper supplies. I used most of it for our Christmas wrapping! Sweet. Poor JT bid but on a Lego Harry Potter game but lost. He was close to tears because "WE ALL" (as in the rest of us B's) got something but he lost and he lost his $25 of his own money that he bid.
We explained to him that since he didn't have the winning bid he didn't actually have to pay any money! He was comforted somewhat but my sympathy for him went out the window when he asked to stop at Target on the way home so he could pick out something for "equal or lesser value". Little monkey trying to work the system! LOL.
There was live music, free crafts, a girl scout bake sale and a delicious spaghetti dinner. JT was happy to get to hang out with his buddies and Hea Bug made beautiful decorations that made their way on to our Christmas tree at home.

It's turning into a fun annual tradition since this is the second time we've attended! Here is a peek at last year.

June 16, 2011

So proud of our little man! He has finished Kindergarten! What an amazing year of growth, learning, and accomplishments! At the last award's assembly, JT was given the "Most Improved"award for the leaps and bounds he made with his penmanship. We were there celebrate his achievements!

The last day of school was spent with all the other Kinder Classes as we walked to El Dorado Park for a fun day of play. There were bubbles, games, relays and face painting. Each class rotated stations, they had such a fun time even though we were experiencing June Gloom weather.

Kinderbration was hosted by 2 classrooms at a time. So smart to have only the families of 50 students in the auditorium as opposed to all 100 kindergarteners at the same time!

We were treated to super cute songs and we got to cheer for our kids as they were presented with awards (JT got a Math Super Star award!) and then their Certificates of Completion. The wonderful Mrs. S choked up a little when offering sweet words of kindness about our children. I know that JT will remember how much he loved and learned from her for his whole life!

At the end of the day, we went back to class and collected all the projects, books, tests, and memories of kindergarten. Can't wait to come back and experience 1st grade!
