Primary Moves and Grooves

We had our ward Thanksgiving Dinner on Friday night and it was so great. Good food, good company, good performances (especially by the primary if I do say so my-biased-self... and by the YW completely unbiased! Their number was ADORABLE!) and this end unofficial performance by some of the kids after clean up was THE BOMB ;)

(sorry about the video quality, they're from my blackberry)

they started off with a little Cha Cha action...

and then of course came MJ... Jack was SO excited about Beat It. that's his jam ;)

I LOVE these kids!

Last Suppers

Sunday was the last night we were feeding this group of missionaries that we've really really really grown to love. Elder Minster and Elder Brough are leaving to go home and Elder Barnes and Elder Esplin are both being transferred to other wards. These guys have really meant a lot to our family .
This was Elder Barnes' first area and we were happy to break him in. :)
I remember we met Elder Minster when he came on splits to a dinner at our house and then again when he did Robert's baptismal interview. Rob called him flashy cuz he had that whole charisma thing going for him. Being from Vegas gave him a little extra razzle dazzle ;) Really though, we had some of the best talks with Elder Minster. He wasn't ever afraid to chastize us (or Rob rather haha) about a new tattoo... or sleeve (po-tay-toes po-tah-toes) or give a little friendly insight about Kolob. LOL. or entertain Nohea for an entire Sacrament meeting by sitting behind us, still appreciating the speakers AND translating their talks into Spanish all at the same time! We appreciated the time that he invested into our family and were happy to oblige with the Pumpkin Cookies and Funeral Potatoes (not together of course) request on the night of the Last Supper. There ended up being a baptism and he and Barnes (Kansas) weren't going to be able to come to dinner... luckily they made some time before the baptism and the husband hooked up the tri tip early for these guys.

Brough Tough (Rob nicknamed him for being an amazing rule follower) was heading back to Kentucky, I mean, Tennessee (hehe) and we were able to pick up a few Long Beach souvenirs for his family. He and Esplin (who was on one dinner occasion a little ambitious with the hot sauce and needed extra napkins when he started sweating from the Tapatio heat) came at 5 and ate with us and got to chat it up one last time. (Well poor Esplin had been dubbed Jack's "new best friend" [Sorry Elder Major] so he mostly got to listen to Jack Jack talk anything and everything.) Elder Brough was the missionary that brought us BBQ sauce from his home and we did up some BBQ for him this summer. He left us a bottle of the amazing sauce which we'll do our best to stretch it out :) Nohea always smiled at Elder Brough during dinners, regardless of where he sat. Even in the picture she's trying to lean over and look at her buddy!

These guys have really meant a lot to our family. Heck, I sign up to feed them so often that they feel like family. It makes me feel good to make them feel at home in our home. We're going to miss them a LOT and are praying for cool replacements or else I'll have to calm down on my dinner appointments. JUST kidding! We'll get to meet our Newbies on Wednesday. We're looking forward to staying in touch for sure!!
So Elders... when you're reading this, my facebook badge is down on the right!

The Booth's Shoot with Mia Marissa

Our Friend and Neighbor Mia Reed is an AMAZING, let me say again AMAZING (in case you didn't catch on to the enthusiasm behind the first all caps) photographer. She was so awesome as to do a set of family shots for us!! About 4 years ago she took some photos of Jack when he was 8 months old and I thought it would be neat to have some of Nohea done at the same age by the same photographer. You can view the pics on my facebook or at Mia's photo blog www.miamarisablog.com

The Lady Bug and Wolverine

We enjoyed Halloween this year with a Trunk-or-Treat at our Church and then some Trick or Treating with Our Brother and Sister-in-Law and their children.

Jack was "Wolverine/Logan" from X-men Origins. Robert made his claws out of spray painted chopsticks, gloves and hot glue. Jack LOVES them. He was sure that when his dad sprayed them, he turned them into actual "adamantium" ;)

I made Nohea and myself some No Sew tutus and we had fun being Mommy/Baby Lady Bugs. The night of Trunk or Treat was so super cold and windy. There was a great turnout as it was a combined activity for all the wards in our building.

Halloween this year was on the last Saturday before Daylight Savings Time. My munchkins actually fell asleep in the car on our way to meeting the Schlarbs! We had to wake them up but they sure did enjoy an hour or so of door to door. Hope your Halloween was great too!

Abby and Judith came too with Grandpa and Oochie!

catching up... yet again.

Well, time is always getting past me. Literally! It's going by too fast! Since my last post there's been a lot happening with us.

Robert- Hard working husband is still working hard. He's enjoying his calling as Cub Scout Master at our Church and always looks forward to Tuesdays. He's taking being a Home Teacher very seriously and tries to get out as often as he can to see one of the 27 on his list... He's pretty ambitious ;) He's planted more grass on the side walk side of our front yard and it's growing in nicely. He's been working on his right sleeve too. It looks AMAZING! He's got one more session to go to really hem it all up.

Me- Keeping busy, Nohea and Jack make that not so hard to do. I help Rob with scouts and now have a calling of my own, I'm the primary teacher for the Valiant 11-12 girls. I'm having a lot of fun getting to know these young ladies. It's funny because while I do try to be as nice an polite as possible, I'm never really worried that people "aren't going to like me"... except these girls, I was SUPER nervous my first Sunday! Otherwise, I realized how slacker I've been on keeping up with my fam blogging... No more typing games on Facebook HAHA!!

Jack Jack- He's started School!! He's in Pre-K at Perry Lindsey, It's not the Little Owl School that we were waiting for (for ages) but this one is completely built (LOL) and is offered free because he's one of the 4 year olds that just missed the kinder deadline. He won't turn 5 until December 19 and I think to start in CA, you have to be 5 by December 1st. He's really enjoying it!
He's always inventing things or making things. He is still an AWESOME big brother and talks our ears off!! He just has a lot to say :)

Nohea- She's got 3 teeth! She's officially crawling and MAN she's fast!! She says Mamamamama, Moh (more), Bah (ball), Kk (Jack), Guh (Maga), and purses her lips when she wants to nurse. She stands against everything and seems to have no fear of falling, you can just see her little mind trying to figure out "how" to fall. She's friendly and waves and smiles at just about everyone. She is amazing and we love watching her grow!

I'm going to try SUPER hard not to slack so much again! Try is the operative word here ;)

All Talk and I Got Whipped

This afternoon we bought some pumpkin pies from Costco (YAY!!) for dessert and of course you need whipped cream for punkin pie. I was looking through the fridge and out loud speculated that I could probably eat a whole can of heavy whipped cream if necessary. Brina says, "wanna try"? I couldn't resist but instead of going with the can we decided to fill plates and have a "whipped cream eating contest". Brina, Mara and I got out big plates ready. I sure did talk a BIG game saying how they didn't have anything on me and I was gonna bring the smack down. Jack wanted to join in the fun so we made a little plate for him.

We sat down at the table and sat on our hands and the eating commenced! After the first few slurps, I knew that there was no way that I'd be able to finish this.

I still thought I was going pretty fast until I looked up and Mara was almost done!! She finished in less than two minutes! So not only did I not come in first I was DEAD LAST. I still had the most whipped cream on my plate! Of course we all felt pretty gross after that but it sure was funny ;)

Summer's almost gone...

This summer has brought us a wide variety of experiences! As the end of August approaches I figured I ought to catch up on what has been keeping the Booth Ohana busy lately.

July 11th (the morning before Robert's baptism) We held a baby shower for my brother Keola and his Girlfriend, Amanda. We made a diaper cake and played funny games, ate some YUMMO food and decorated in a very green fashion (we hung baby clothes on a line with clothes pins, it was super cute).

There was a diaper raffle which was won by their friend Emily Jane. Two movie tickets and a $50 gift card to Lucille's! It was good fun and we were all anxiously awaiting the arrival of Little Anthony!

We didn't have to wait too long, he made his arrival on Thursday, July 23rd! He's such a cutie and we're so happy to have Teeny Kalani Man join us! His name is Anthony Richard Keola o'Kalani Kamae and he was 7lbs 9oz and 19 1/2 inches long. We <3 him!

Nohea is now officially eating solid foods. I heart my magic bullet and have made all of her food myself (YAY). She's been enjoying good ole applesauce, carrots, peaches, mango, papaya, poi, peas, bananas, rice cereal, oatmeal, cream of wheat, yogurt (frozen kine too), clam chowder, green beans and wild rice, chicken carbonara (Nohea says thanks Auntie) and zucchini! She likes to drink ice water out of her sippy cup too. She's getting SO big and growing SO fast. She rolls all over the place (until she get's stuck). I came into the living room the other morning and couldn't see her. I had a split second panic until I heard her from under the rocking chair! We now set up pillow barricades ;) She sits up for long periods of time and is trying SO hard to get up on her knees to crawl. She cut her first tooth last week and still loves to chew on everything!

Jack Jack broke his leg on August 3rd! He was on the trampoline and his uncle tried to "double bounce" him and he came down on his food and said he felt a "crack like a cracker mommy!". Luckily we had Uncle Craig here and as he was checking him over Jack cried, "Just give me a band aid and some bactine and some tylenol and I'll be fine" (through the tears mind you). We had him lay down for a little while and he was still pretty hysterical. Uncle Craig gave him a blessing and then Robert and I took him to the emergency room. He was still crying so much in the car and kept asking me to sing him some songs. When we pulled up outside the emergency room he asked if we could say a prayer for him to be strong like Nephi. I did just that, asking Heavenly Father to give him comfort and help him not be afraid, For strength and courage and Jack listened so intently. I love how teeny people have such enormous faith, he was crazy brave all during xrays and being moved twice. We found out that he fractured his tibia just up under the knee. He was put in a thigh high cast for up to six weeks. We're going back on the 1st to have it cut off and have another xray done. Hopefully he'll be all healed up. He got tiny crutches and gets around SO well. Half the time he just hops on one foot! The Drs. at the orthopedic office took his picture because they've never seen someone so small get around so well on crutches. Since then, he gets around at home fine, at church fine, even at Disneyland! I did take the double stroller for him to be able to ride though :) He's been such a trooper but I know he's just itching to get outside and run and play!!

Otherwise, we've been good. We're looking forward to going out on the boat a few more times before it gets chilly. We're trying to stay busy with work and have Fall Ball coming up. Robert was also called to be the Asst. Cub Scout Master which we are all super excited about! We've been going out with the Missionaries to visit people too. We took the bike out to one of these lessons and I got a mean burn on my leg when i was climbing off the bike. New rule for Kryssie: No Church Clothes on the Motorcycle LOL!! We've also been finding time to go to the gym together, we've always enjoyed being work out buddies but with the baby and everything it was difficult to find the time. We try hard to to it although typically it means our workouts are at about 10 or 11pm. Thank goodness we go to 24 hr fitness ;) We're looking forward to getting ourselves physically fit again and as silly as it sounds, are having a fun time doing it!

yup, a mormon.

So... we've always been welcome and open to having missionaries in our home. Happy to feed these guys and chat them up about where they're from. Not always receptive to their message so it kinda threw me for a loop when my husband said that he was going to call the missionaries and have them come over and "teach what they need to teach" because he'd decided to get baptized. We'd been casually discussing church things and I'd try to explain what I remembered about the temple and basic Mormon teachings that I'd learned as a child but I was obviously rusty because I hadn't been active for about 11 years. Thank goodness he had a better "inside man" in our Brother-in-law Craig. Rob and Craig would spend hours (literally) talking about the Church, the Gospel and "policy and procedure" as Rob likes to call it, while working together.

Elder Mortensen and Elder Jensen started coming over and spending time with us, sharing the word as missionaries are happy to do :)

We've gotten so used to these guys being a part of our lives, we'll certainly be a little bummed when they aren't the ones dropping in to say hello and check on us anymore, but we'll be happy to befriend new Elders that come our way. So Arizona and Utah... when you guys are reading this about a year or so from now... you really made a difference in our lives. Thank You.

On Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 5:00pm Robert was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by Craig. On Sunday, he was confirmed a member in Sacrament Meeting. We grateful for the love and support of our family and friends. We had an open house after the baptism on Saturday and were so happy to welcome people into our home. We had a lot of love present <3

We're anxious and excited to take all the steps necessary that will not only bring us closer to our Heavenly Father but that will make it possible to seal our family together for time and all eternity. I love my family so much and can't imagine forever without them. We are happy to know that now, we don't have to.

So yup, we're Mormons :)
