Seattle in June

Annually, we take a work (for Mr. B.) slash vacation (for the little B's and I) trip for a company meeting that we manage the production for... It's generally for about a week at a time. Last year we visited the Dove Mountain Resort in Tuscon and a few years ago, we spent almost two weeks in Las Vegas at the Red Rock Resort and Casino. We weren't going to accompany Mr. B on this years gig because I had planned to have JT in 49er Camp and he would be gone the whole first week. When I put it to the kids, they wanted to go on a plane. Then after realizing that Mr. B would be gone on Father's day, we decided being together took priority to summer scheduling.

The company is based in Seattle and wanted to do something close to home to we took off to downtown Seattle, WA. Mr. B had traveled there previously for work but the kids and I had never been and were excited to explore somewhere new.  We flew up a day early and stayed at the W Hotel. The next morning we found Father's day breakfast of Meat Loaf Loco Moco, Stuffed Peanut Butter Cheeky French toast, pancakes, spam and eggs at the Cheeky Cafe. We then headed to Safeco Park to watch the Mariners play the Giants. We try to catch a ball game in any city we visit if possible and being the Dodger fans that we are, we will gladly root for ANYONE playing against the Giants ;)

After the game, we got checked in and settled at the Sheraton, Downtown. The week was FILLED with stuff to do. I am not one to sit in a hotel on a vacation. I'm an explorer and determined to show my kids the sites! Thanks to the blackout curtains in the room and me running the kids around town via, car, train, monorail, foot, uphill and down they slept until at least 10am! They NEVER sleep that late!

The kids enjoy playing in the ballroom on load in days before the show.

Making our way through Pike Place market. We found tea and crumpets at the the amazing
Crumpet Shop. JT bought cherries and Hea Bug bought a peony from the flower mart.

Riding the Duck in Seattle was the best way to get a full tour of the city. Our guide was super funny and as we did it on our first day, it gave me a really good idea of how things were laid out. Mr. B was  privy to all the knowledge that was dropped on me thanks to this tour.

We visited the Seattle Aquarium and that is where we decided to buy a city pass that would let us see multiple attractions during the week we were there.

We took advantage of the pool and the gym on the 35th floor. Mr. B would take the kids swimming and I would run. I actually took this picture from the gym. They were only separated by a glass wall so it was fun that I could see them while working out!

Street Side Crepes at La Creperie Voila! Sweet crepes, savory crepes, and Nutella Ice Cream!

Taking the monorail from downtown to the Seattle Center was our favorite way to travel.

We rode the ducks, visited the King Tutankhamen exhibit at the Pacific Science Center, Space Needle, EMP (experience music project), Pike Place Market, took a harbor cruise, saw Mt. Ranier from the top of the space needle, went to the Seattle Aquarium, chewed up gum and contributed to the gum wall in Post Alley, ate at great street side cafes, seafood restaurants, steak houses, boardwalk stops and specialty shops. The weather was warm for 3 1/2 days, we were even able to see Mt. Ranier from the top of the space needle. We did catch some rain but we were on the go and a little rain wasn't going to stop us.

We took the Link Light rail back to the airport the day before Mr. B came home. The kids are terrific flyers. They find their seats, pop in their headphones and chill out the whole flight. Our fellow passengers were especially impressed since there was a super crying toddler in the row in front of us. As always, we enjoy going places but we enjoy coming home too. Best of both worlds!
